You’re Invited to Connect with the Ocean

Aloha, and Happy New Year!

2025 is an exciting year for the Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology, where new opportunities to understand and steward the ocean–both locally and globally–abound. On February 26-27, the HIMB Directorʻs Council will host a special opportunity to gather onsite on Moku o Loʻe for an immersive, behind-the-scenes look at our research, education, and island stewardship. Join us to experience how HIMB studies everything from marine microbes to megafauna, the many dimensions of coral reef restoration, and the vital connections from mauka to makai. Our explorations will connect us with passionate researchers, who are actively asking and answering critical questions about the future health of the ocean. We’ll explore state-of-the-art labs, tools, and techniques. We’ll venture into and on the water, into the mountains and the mud. On the evening of February 26, we will gather with fellow ocean supporters at Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi, a stunning site embraced by the Koʻolau Mountains, where HIMB supports community partners advancing biocultural restoration efforts. We’ll talk story, enjoy local music and pūpūs, and connect about opportunities for action in ocean science and conservation.

Join us for one or two immersive days, dinner Wednesday night, or the whole event. Come and join us this February at HIMB: where marine science connects.
